The Pandal has been designed by the renowned artiste, Shri Bandan Raha, who gave Kolkata its first Landmark Theme Puja by making a Pandal of earthen pots in 2001. One of the most ancient and traditionally bounded parts of West Behala is Barisha. This expanded area includes the historic place Atchala along with Dadosh Shiv Mandir which are very famous. The fame of the Saborno Roychowdhury family of Barisha is heard all over the world. At present this family celebrates Durga Puja with great splendor and this is one of the spectacular spot of attraction which is included in West Bengal Government’s special Puja package. The initiative of some enthusiastic youth gave birth to Barisha Sarbojanin Durgotsab in 1949. Many people expressed their doubt of hosting the Puja in the locality because at that point of time Durga Puja was performed only at the Thakurdalan of the Roychowdhury family. But the members of Barisha Sarbojanin Durgotsab Committee namely, Sri Surendranah Roychowdhury, Sri Tulsi Roychowdhury, Sri Parbaticharan Roychowdhury, Sri Annadacharan Mitra and others took an initiative to extend the Durga Puja to a much larger scale by including the families of the entire locality. With this objective Barisha Sarbojanin Durgotsab was started and is continuing till now very successfully.

Every year the local people extend their helping hands for the prosperity and advancements of the Puja. Barisha Sarbojanin Durgotsab has also been awarded with various prizes over the years.
