For the uninitiated, Songkran is the Thai New Year festival celebrated lavishly in Thailand and observed on the same day
of Bengali New Year. The word “Songkran” is borrowed from Makar Sankranti, the festival of Harvest, making it feel
close to the heart of each Kolkatan. JW Marriott Kolkata, the popular hotel of the city, is all set to put their best foot
forward to celebrate Songkran.
Commemorating the occasion, JW Marriott Kolkata is hosting a Songkran Food Festival, at the much-loved signature
Asian restaurant – Vintage Asia. A specially curated menu of Thai delicacies will be hosted at the property from 9

-15th
April 2018, for one to savor the best of Thai dishes.
The team of chefs at JW Marriott Kolkata aim to host another festival at the property, getting busy yet again, to curate a
splendid Thai spread. Vintage Asia has always been the talk of the town for its delicious Chinese and Thai cuisine. The
menu for the Songkran food festival has been designed by Chef Suvit Tongnark, the Thai Specialty Chef from Phuket
Marriott Resort and Spa, Merlin Beach who is visiting the property, especially for the festival.
Chef Suvit, brings with him 30 years of experience in Thai cuisine, which makes sure only the best makes it to the table.
His culinary journey began in 1988, and over the course, he has worked in premiere properties and restaurants across
Thailand, Australia and USA. He has dabbled briefly in Western cuisine as well; however, his passion has always been
Thai food. His stint in the Marriott family began in 2015, as he worked as the Chef de Partie at C-Salt Restaurant at the
Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa, Rayong, Thailand. Currently he is working in capacity of the Thai Specialty chef at
Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Merlin Beach. He leads the Thai section in the hotel and his understanding of Thai
Cuisine is praiseworthy.
The dishes will be displayed as a part of a special ala carte menu and a special offer on set menu priced at INR 1999/- will
be available as well. Set menu inclusions are premium beverages- whiskey, single malt, vodka, wines and mocktails and a
variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that will leave each guest spoilt for choice. Some of the specialty dishes
to watch out for in this menu are ‘Satay Tofu’, ‘Yum Gai Krob Samunprai’ (Spicy Crusty Fried Chicken Salad with
Aromatic Thai Herbs), ‘Pla Krapong Nueng Ma-Naow’ (Steamed Bekti with Spicy Chili, Garlic Lime Sauce), ‘Tom
Jued Phak Gad Khao Tao Hoo’ (Clear Soup with Chinese Cabbage and Tofu), ‘Wok Fried Phuket Noodles’, ‘Fuk
Thong Kati’ (Warm Pumpkin in Coconut Milk Syrup).
