Dabur Research Foundation (DRF), signed a MOU with National Innovation Foundation (NIF) to work together on finding herbal insights for key therapeutic areas like chronic inflammation, metabolic disorders, hepatic diseases and diseases of the gut. The collaboration will span over a period of ten years to validate, develop and bring to market traditional herbal products.
Speaking on the collaboration, Dr. Manu Jaggi, Chief Scientific Officer, DRF said: “DRF has over two decades experience of developing herbal products using state of the art tools in GLP certified laboratories”. Both the organisations have already been working together over the last three years contributing in value addition, research and development of herbal practices. With strategic inputs from NIF, DRF plans to undertake preclinical validation studies on herbal leads in state-of-the-art infrastructure at Sahibabad, UP, India”.
“This partnership is a further illustration of DRF’s truly unique capabilities and competence in pre-clinical studies, product development and NIF’s commitment to disseminating outstanding traditional knowledge. NIF advocates the use of traditional knowledge of Indian healers and validating the same using modern methods of medicine” said, Dr. Vipin Kumar, Director, NIF.
Under the terms of the agreement, DRF will have the right of first refusal to enter into a separate commercial agreement with NIF if it chooses to take on any validated leads for product commercialization. The MoU also enables DRF to transfer the technology from NIF for commercialization and thus, DRF will have pay a technology transfer fee contingent on a transfer fee as per mutually agreed upon terms.
