Harmutty Tea Estate, one of the oldest Assam tea gardens of Goodricke Group Ltd., has donated a State-of-the-ArtDigital library to Harmutty Higher Secondary School, situated 30km from North Lakhimpur in Assam. It is an initiative of Goodricke Group as a part of their social responsibility programme for the children of the garden workers.
The E-library was inaugurated by Mr. Atul Asthana, Chief Operational Officer of Goodricke Group Ltd, in the presence of the school staff, invited guests and students. The library building, built at a cost of Rs 8 Lakh along with three computers with internet facility, will not only encourage the students but will also help in the overall growth of the school.
On this occasion, a meeting was held in the school campus, chaired by Mr. Dibakar Baruah, President of the Management Committee of Harmutty HS School. Mr. Abrar-Ul-Haq Chawdhury, General Manager, Harmutty Tea Estate, delivered the keynote address and elaborated on Goodricke’s social responsibility programme in extending assistance to various developmental projects in the vicinity of the tea estate.
Dr. Prabal Saikia, the Chief Scientist of the Regional Agriculture Research Centre of Assam Agricultural University was the Guest of Honour,who urged the students to not only update their knowledge but also be aware of the environment, which has been facing threats due to climatic changes. On this account, Mr. Sazzad Hussain, Columnist and Professor in English of Lakhimpur Commerce College, spoke about the concept of E-library and digital resources. He encouraged the teachers of the school to provide protected internet facility in order to prohibit any kind of misuse of internet browsing.
