Kolkata,By Payel Das:- All over our country, the state of personal hygiene is quite dismal, particularly in case of women. It was found in a study that out of 335 million menstruating women, only twelve percent of women use Sanitary Napkins. It was also found that most of the women residing in the rural India cannot use sanitary napkins due to its high price.
As part of its social drive, Junaid Education Foundation jointly with Bestfriendz Society and with many other volunteer organisation, individuals and school students to provide free and affordable sanitary napkins to villagers .These napkins will not only be distributed among rural women, but also in orphanages where girls are not aware about the advantages of maintaining personal hygiene.
“When coming up with this drive, JEF & BFS together planned to celebrate Women’s Day with a difference. We plan to create awareness amongst the masses about sanitation, menstrual hygiene, toilets and its effect on girls’ education and health. We particularly targeted those living in rural areas, urban slums, refugee camps and orphanages” said Rakshinda Jabeen, Co-Founder, Junaid Education Foundation.
A gathering of more than 150 of village women and young Girls came forward to be a part ‘Day celebration at Masjidtalla, Jagdishpur Uluberia. The foundation organised a Talk session on Health & hygiene .This was followed by practical demonstration of hand washing, physical and mental exercise .This Mission will encourage young girls to become the brand ambassadors of this drive and they will be responsible for initiating this drive in their own school , colleges, villages, areas orphanages. There will be no celebrities to promote this idea.
“Our objective is to make girls realize the significance of using sanitary napkins and how it can ensure their good reproductive health. Since, there will be no celebrities involved in the mission; the girls will be more receptive to this idea” said Shagufta Hanaphie, Secretary, Bestfriendz Society.
