Lions Clubs International (LCI) is the world’s largest service club organisation with 13.8 lakh members in over 208 countries and geographical areas of the world.
For administrative purpose, LCI s divided into seven constitutional areas. One of these areas is India, South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, generally known as ISAAME. This area comprises clubs in 65 countries. The membership of this area is in excess of 3.25 lakh, with India contributing over 2 lakh members.
The motto of our association is: We serve. All our members and clubs are committed to providing need based services in the communities where they exist. Healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, environment, promotion of peace and international understanding and relief/rehabilitation during times of natural disaster constitute the activities of the clubs.
This is the centennial year of our organisation. LCI was initiated in 1917, and it came to India in 1956. Today there are about 235,000 members in India in around 7000 clubs.
Lions ISAAME Forum will be held at Kolkata fro Naresh Aggarwal is our International Presidr. Speakers and motivators like Sadhguru, Sri Ravinder Singh, Mary Kom, Abhinav Bindrd, would be addressing the Forum. A debate Oxford and Cambridge would also be held.
December this year at Hotel ITC Sonar Kolkata. a proud moment for us as he is from India. ,Inkar, Sister Shivani, Chanchaladasa Prabhu, 1, Shatrughan Sinha, Tennille Amor and others 1)-ts from renowned Universities like Harvard, Ong : Charity prevents sustainability.
Entertainment at the Forum will be provided by Ability Unlimited (a group that performs with physically challenged individuals on wheel chairs) and Shillong Chamber Choir.
The total attendance would be around 2500, and 50% of the delegates would be from In-dia. Other delegates would be from around 40 other countries. Executive offices and Inter-national directors (past and present) from around the world would be present, too.
During the Forum, specific discussions in the sessions would be held on programs for eli-minating hunger, awareness for diabetes and measles vaccination, education programs, projects for specially challenged children and lifestyle improvement for better living.
The sessions by Sadhguru, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Sister Shivani will focus on Power of We, Power of Action and Power of Service respectively. Lions run various permanent projects including Blood Banks, schools, vocational training centres, hospitals, environment projects, programs for poverty alleviation through micro finance and assisting students through scholarships. Booths for 15 selected projects would be set up at the Forum, and those projects would even be financially supported to carry forward their mission by actual donations of at least up to INR 65 lakhs.
