AMBUJA NEOTIA GROUP ORGANIZED 2ND EDITION OF CHARLES CORREA MEMORIAL LECTURE

By Papiya Halder: – The architect-fraternity of India and Ambuja Neotia Group got together on a common platform to offer tribute to the legendary architect Charles Correa by organizing the 2nd edition “Charles Correa Annual Memorial Lecture” at the Suresh Neotia Center of Excellence for Leadership, in the presence of eminent guests and delegates. Ambuja Neotia Group has been consistently organizing this annual lecture since last year to commemorate the death anniversary of the visionary architect.

This year the event was graced by Mr. Richard Hassell (Renowned architect from the University of Western Australia) and one of the founders of WOHA, a Singapore-based architecture practice, established in 1994. WOHA has gained global recognition for its integration of environmental and social principles at every stage of the design process. WOHA has designed a diverse amount of innovative and highly influential projects, which have been built in a number of cities and countries, and its best-known projects have been widely publicized as benchmarks for sustainable design. Mr. Kamal Hadker, Chairman & Managing Director, Sterling Engineering Consultancy Services addressed the media along with Mr. Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman Ambuja Neotia Group as special invitee.

The primary objective of this annual lecture is not only to pay homage to his legacy on a specific day but also to encourage research and practice of his values in Architecture throughout the year. The master architect had a natural bond with the Group through a shared philosophy of environment-friendly and sustainable architectural development. He designed City Centre such that the mall became an extension of city streets, people and the overall social microcosm. Charles Correa’s oeuvre and life work was about giving expression to his ideas. All his work were a combination of ideas moulded by both aesthetic and visual sensibility as well as his understanding of the cultural, political, social and economic realities of India.

The first year’s lecture was graced by Mr. Correa’s wife, Mrs. Monika Correa, eminent Professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design – Mr. Rahul Mehrotra, who is also his son in law, renowned Paraguayan architect Solano Benitez and Mr. Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of Ambuja Neotia.

“I am extremely honoured to be able to host this memorial lecture for the 2nd consecutive year for the legend Charles Correa. He was the first modern Asian Architect whose vision of an eco-friendly and human-centric urbanization of India is of utmost relevance today. His legacy will always have an ever-lasting impact in the history of world architecture.” said Mr. Harshavardhan Neotia.
