The leader of fashion innovation is back with its 2018 Winter/Festive edition. In its 18th year, Lakmé Fashion Week puts forth a promising line-up of shows, designers, creative presentations and ideas to be held from 22nd to 26th August 2018 at St. Regis, Mumbai. The forthcoming season will host a perfect mix of upcoming talent and the industry’s most established names that will set an unparalleled benchmark of diversity, creativity and fashion.

 

Monisha Jaising, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abraham & Thakore, Amit Aggarwal, Ritu Kumar, Narendra Kumar, Kallol Datta,Ashish N Soni, Nachiket BarveGaurang, Pankaj & Nidhi among other designers will come together to present the best of fashion through sustainable and inclusive collaborations.

 

Since its inception, Lakmé Fashion Week has strived to promote young talent, taken the lead on the digital front, has been at the helm of kick starting conversations on beauty and continues to excel by innovation as a global fashion platform.

 

This season too, Lakmé Fashion Week will witness the perfect amalgamation of upcoming talent and the industry’s most established names. A platform for fresh talent, the Gen Next programme will launch five new designers who will get a chance to showcase their creations. Newly launched ‘The Platform’ in association with smartwater will present three emerging designers this season.

 

Also, taking forward the legacy of giving fresh faces a chance to take to the ramp, six models will make a runway debut this August. Followed by 29 fresh faces who were chosen at the plus size model auditions, who will walk for aLL-The Plus Size Store’s show.

 

International hair and make-up artists Daniel Bauer, Florian Hurel, Franco Vallelonga will return with their magical strokes at the upcoming season of Lakmé Fashion Week.

v  MONISHA JAISING AS THE LAKMÉ ABSOLUTE GRAND FINALE DESIGNER

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/ Resort 2018 will witness the return of Monisha Jaising, this time as a Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale Designer, where she will bring alive Lakmé’s beauty theme of Shades of a Diva. The Finale will showcase Monisha’s fashion sensibility which is influenced by her prima donna personality and fits perfectly with Lakmé’s beauty theme. Her figure- sculpting silhouette creations will see the use of precious elements and colourful fabrics in both, muted like sweet lilac and bold like peacock green, palettes. The embroidery on the designs will derive inspiration from global art, which in turn will complement the ‘diva-licious’ Lakmé Grand Finale stage.

v  REVEALING THE MUCH-AWAITED OFFSITE SHOWS

Lakmé Fashion Week will host two offsite shows at exclusive venues that will elevate the fashion experience for both its key stakeholders and patrons alike:

  1. Grand finale – Monisha Jaising returns to Lakmé Fashion Week as the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale designer. Her collection is themed on ‘Shades of a Diva’ and will be showcased on 26th August in association with Cirque Du Soleil at an extravagant locale in Mumbai.
  2. Good Earth – debuts at LFW 2018 with its first couture collection – ‘The Miniaturist’. Since the inception of its clothing line Sustain, Good Earth is all set after a decade to make its debut at Lakmé Fashion week 2018 with the launch of its couture collection titled ‘The Miniaturist’. At the show, the audience will have a unique experience of being immersed in the history, the nuances and the creation of gold and silver embellishments that we know as Gota. Like a master miniaturist creates a world of wonder through the finest delicate strokes of his brush, the Good Earth collection will have the most exquisite patterns in minute detail that can best be appreciated when seen up close, just as with miniatures. The collection epitomizes slow fashion and is limited to just 27 ensembles that have been created over time where each piece is original and unique.

 

  • Designers enhancing the glamour quotient

Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018 will also host country’s top designers like Amit Aggarwal, Ashish N Soni and Pankaj & Nidhi who will greatly enhance the glamour quotient.

Amit Aggarwal in association with NEXA will put forth a collection that uses new age materials, new forms and patterns with incredible craftsmanship.

Ashish N Soni in collaboration with TRESemmé will showcase a collection that will bring alive the concept of Metamorphosis.

Pankaj & Nidhi will be returning to Lakmé Fashion with a spectacular showcase inspired by Nokia.

 

  • INIFD PRESENTS GEN NEXT SHOW

INIFD will once again be the official knowledge partner for Lakmé Fashion Week and will present the prestigious Gen Next program at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018. The five labels making their debut areJAJABOR, YAVI, SWGT, AUR, ANURAG GUPTA.

 

  • SUSTAINABLE FASHION DAY

Sustainable Fashion Day is a property that celebrates the rich heritage of Indian handloom and indigenous craft season after season. With a special focus on Rajasthani & Odisha handwoven fabrics to khadi weaves and Kanjivaram to ecological fibers, the Sustainable Fashion Day (SFD) on 23rd August, will bring to life the magic of Indian heritage crafts.

 

The day will see a show by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Digital Empowerment Foundation presents #ArtisansOfDigitalAge, Craftmark X KA- SHA presents Kota women weavers, RmKV silks re-crafting traditional silks in collaboration with Sunita Shanker, Rajesh Pratap Singh in collaboration with TENCEL™, EKA and Vriksh by Gunjan Jain.

 

Digital empowerment foundation (DEF) has been working for a decade to give underserved rural communities access to equitable information. Lakmé Fashion Week and IMG Reliance have facilitated a digitally driven designer-artisan collaboration in three clusters under Digital Cluster Development Programme (DCDP) -Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF).

 

Lakmé Fashion Week in association with Craftmark will facilitate market linkages and promote sustainable artisan clusters in the fashion industry. This association gives Kota textile weavers from Rajasthan an opportunity to collaborate with designer Karishma Shahani Khan of label Ka-Sha and create a commercial collection for her label.

 

Post a successful association at the last season of Lakmé Fashion Week, leading Indian designer Rajesh Pratap Singh and international sustainable fibre brand TENCEL™ reunite to present a path-breaking eco-collection. For the first time in the label’s history, the designer will be creating an Indian ethnic style collection with womenswear and menswear looks. Through the collection, the designer aims to combine the strength of the world’s most ecological fibres, TENCEL™, along with the indigenous magic of Indian heritage crafts such as Chanderi, Benarasi, Jamdani using cutting edge-technology.

 

With 94 years of experience in silk, RmKV has set the benchmark in sarees with superior products, design innovations and revolutionary techniques in handloom silk weaving. This season RmKV collaborates with fashion and textile designer, Sunita Shanker, to further push the boundaries in development. A collaboration that encompasses design intervention that is not only contemporary but also has an aesthetic appeal.

 

  • STUDIO

Studio at Lakmé Fashion Week is an experimental space for conceptual presentations in formats that promote thought provoking collections by fashion & textile designers and artists. The Studio is a space fashion x art, music, technology, theatre and various creative disciplines converge and inspires designers & artists. Some of the designers this season include CHOLA, MISFIT PANDA, ANTAR AGNI, RUCERU, LABEL ETIKA, SAMMOHI, AND SITA MIKAHIL.

 

  • INCLUSIVITY

Every season Lakmé Fashion Week is known to set an unparalleled benchmark of inclusivity. Taking this momentum forward, this season makes way for industry stories on the evolution of fashion, upcycling and sustainability initiatives in the country. Initiatives such as the aLL Primero by Narendra KumarHalf Full Curve and Gender Bender will once again push the envelope while embracing and endorsing inclusivity in fashion.
