The Hope Foundation, Kolkata celebrated its 18th Annual Cultural and Education day ‘Akhandaikarasa- the undivided essence of Love’ at Nazrul Mancha today. The Foundation Day commenced in the presence of a volley of dignitaries, Ms. Henrietta Dorrington Ward and Mr. Bruce Bucknell, British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata, Ms. Madhu Neotia, Social Activist & Philanthropist, Mr. Prasenjit Gupta, Consul for Political and Economic Affairs, U.S. Consulate General Kolkata, Ms Indrani Brahmo, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee. Also present during the ceremony was Ms. Maureen Forrest, Founder and Director, Hope Foundation with a delegation of other dignitaries.
Love and light, the theme of this year’s celebration, was the key message depicted through the performances put up by more than 700 underprivileged children of the Hope Foundation during the Annual Day. The 18th Year of the Cultural Day also witnessed the distribution of Solar Lamps to the families of South 24 Parganas who are devoid of electricity.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Maureen Forrest, Founder and Director, Hope Foundation, “The Hope Foundation has always been inclined towards protecting the underprivileged all over the world. Through the distribution of solar lamps today we have taken a step closer to extending our help further in various places in India. We at HOPE believe that a strong civic society influences long-term and sustainable change and thus we adopt a rights-based approach. Electricity is a basic right today and what noble way than lighting up someone’s life.”
The main aim of the organization is to give the children an opportunity to celebrate their childhood and innocence, a platform for them to showcase their very best.
