Won’t let you kick development out from Bengal, PM tells CM.

Asserting that the BJP is run on schemes whereas Trinamool Congress runs on scams, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said he will not allow Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to kick out development from West Bengal.

Referring to wall graffiti that has come up in the poll-bound State, where Ms. Banerjee has been shown kicking the Prime Minister, Mr. Modi said, “Didi can put her foot on my head and kick me if you want it but I will not allow you to kick development out of West Bengal”.

The Prime Minister addressed a public rally in Bankura, where a number of constituencies are going to polls in the first phase of polling on March 27.

Mr. Modi reiterated the BJP’s poll promise of “Asol Paribortan (Real Change)” and accused Ms. Banerjee of playing with the lives of Bengal’s people for 10 years. “Now her khela (game) will be over and vikas (development) will begin,” he said.

Referring to recent remarks made by the Chief Minister that she does not like his face, Mr. Modi said, “Didi does not like my face; but in democracy, it is the work for people that matters, not someone’s face.”

The Prime Minster said anticipating defeat in the elections, the Trinamool Congress chairperson has already started questioning the functioning of EVMs which had brought her to power 10 years ago. In her recent public rallies Ms Banerjee has been urging people to keep a watch at counting centres even after voting is over. Polling for Assembly polls in West Bengal will be held in eight phases beginning March 27.

Meanwhile, speaking at a public rally at Kanthi Uttar, Ms. Banerjee accused the BJP government of “selling” public service undertakings and the railways.

“Those who are greedy themselves are trying to teach us. Look at the number of cars in their convoy. Their accusations of corruption does not mean anything,” she said alleging that the BJP is party of “biggest dacoits”. Ms. Banerjee urged the people to vote for Trinamool Congress if they want the welfare schemes to continue in the State.
