#NewDelhi: The decision to postpone the National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was taken due to the Corona situation. The test was supposed to start from May 2. The test was to be held till May 16. But as the Corona situation in the country became increasingly complicated, the board decided to postpone the examination for the time being. On Tuesday, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the decision to postpone the exam.
The National Testing Agency conducts the net test on behalf of the University Grants Commission. It is through this examination that an assistant professor is appointed in the university. Not only that, who will be selected for the Junior Research Fellowship position is also determined by the results of this test. But in the Corona situation, the Union Ministry of Education decided to postpone the exam.
The National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was scheduled to be held early next month. But the testing agency said it was not possible to test for corona infection in the country. They said that the decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of all the examinees and the examination staff.
On Tuesday, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal told Nishank, “I advised the NTA DG to postpone the UGC-NET (May 2021) examination considering the safety and health of the candidates in the event of Kovid-19 overcrowding.” He added, “I urge all of you to stay safe and abide by all the rules of coronavirus.”

However, it has not been announced when the UGC-NET test will be held. According to the NTA, the examination schedule will be announced later. Candidates have been assured that they will know the schedule at least 15 days in advance.
