The state school education department has said that schools in the state will be able to start the process of giving mid-day meal from June 7. The state has included chickpeas in the list of mid-day meals since last year to increase the nutrition of children since the context of Corona situation was created. In addition to removing gram from the list of mid-day meal, the amount of sugar and soybean has been reduced. Till May, 500 grams of sugar and 200 grams of soybean mid-day meal were listed. But from June it will be reduced to 250 grams of sugar and 100 grams of soybean.
Since the Corona situation last year, the state government has started including more than one food item in the list of mid-day meals. Just before the Assembly vote, the state also decided to include sugar and pulses in the list of mid-day meal. This time the state government cut the list. Multiple controversies began over the inclusion of gram in the list of mid-day meals. However, the school education department did not provide any answer as to why it was dropped from the mid-day meal list in June.
From June 7, the process of giving mid-day meal for the month of June can be started in every district. According to the guidelines issued by the state school education department, 1 kg of potatoes, 2 kg of rice, 250 gms of sugar, 100 gms of soybeans, 250 gms of pulses and one pound of soap will be given at mid-day meal in June. According to the guidelines issued by the state government, the parents of the students will come and collect the mid-day meal from the schools in accordance with the Kovid protocol.
