Delhi rain: In a matter of relief for the residents of the national capital, New Delhi and adjoining areas were hit by heavy rainfall and gusty winds on Tuesday evening. Notably, rainfall and winds also impacted the national capital on Monday, giving them a sigh of relief amid the March-end heat. Moreover, orange alert has also been issued for Delhi on Tuesday as light to moderate rainfall. Gusty winds are likely to reach speeds of 40–50 kmph, with occasional gusts up to 60 kmph. An orange alert indicates that residents should be prepared for potentially disruptive weather conditions. Hailstorms may also occur in isolated areas of the NCR region. The weather department has predicted that rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected across many parts of the national capital.
Delhi weather update: What has the IMD predicted?
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the predominant surface wind is expected to be from the southwest, with speeds of up to 15 kmph during the afternoon. Wind speed is likely to gradually decrease, dropping below 10 kmph from the southeast direction during the evening and night.
Despite the rain activity, daytime temperatures are expected to remain above normal, the IMD added. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius.
What is the railway weather update for North India?
Several states in north India witnessed rainfall while parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh reported snowfall for the second day in a row on Monday, a report by PTI news agency said.
As per the report, parts of Delhi received light rain on Monday evening, bringing relief after the city reeled under a warm day with temperatures hovering around 35 degrees Celsius and humid conditions through the afternoon.
Rainfall activity picked up across Delhi between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm, with Safdarjung recording 0.5 mm, Palam 0.2 mm, Lodi Road 0.7 mm, Ridge 0.2 mm, Ayanagar 0.6 mm, Pusa 0.5 mm and Janakpuri 0.5 mm, while Mayur Vihar recorded 1.0 mm rainfall, the highest among all stations.
