Unique discrepancies in West Bengal ECI data

New Delhi: The Election Commission has extended the last date for filling out SIR forms in several states, but the deadline for filling out SIR forms in West Bengal, Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Rajasthan expired on Thursday, December 12, and the draft electoral rolls in these states will be published on December 16. According to the Election Commission (ECI), discrepancies have been found in approximately 1 crore 67 lakh, and it suspects that the information provided by the voters is not genuine. The poll body is likely to call these voters for an explanation.

Data discrepancies have been found in the names of the fathers of approximately 85 lakh voters. Approximately 13.5 lakh voters have the same name listed for both their mother and father. Of these, 11 lakh 95 thousand voters became fathers before the age of 15.

According to the Election Commission, the number of fathers with 6 children in the state is 24 lakh 21 thousand and 3 lakh 45 thousand people became grandfathers before the age of 40.

More than 13 lakh voters have the same name for both parents

During the checking and comparing of the entire data, and the detailed information, it was found that in the case of 13.5 lakh voters, the same person’s name has appeared as both father and mother. That is, in some cases, the father’s name has appeared in place of the mother’s name, and in other cases, the mother’s name has appeared in place of the father’s name.

The ECI says that the sons of 11 lakh 95 thousand 230 voters are 15 years younger than their fathers. Meanwhile, 3 lakh 29 thousand 152 voters became grandfathers before the age of 40. The ECI has doubts about their information.

According to the Election Commission, some of these more than 1.67 crore voters, whose names and ages are incorrect, may be summoned for a hearing. According to commission sources, the information of all these voters will be verified again. Booth-level officers will go door-to-door to verify the information, and then they will be called for a hearing.
