#Kolkata: Family members of many patients have accused private hospitals of occasionally charging exorbitant bills. In the wake of such a complaint, the state health commission directed all private hospitals in the state to look into the bill of the Christian Medical College in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. It has been said that private hospitals should look at how to provide treatment at low cost. The family of Bikash Chandra Mandal, a resident of Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas, was billed Tk 4.96 lakh after being admitted to a hospital on the side of the bypass for 10 days. Bikash Babu was injured in a bike accident. The Health Commission said this in the context of that incident. This time, in the case of Behala Apex Nursing Home, there were allegations of taking excessive bills day after day. The Health Commission also gave a stern warning in this regard.
One patient was admitted there with a problem with sodium potassium. Two lakh eighty thousand rupees is billed in 7 days. The bill cannot be more than 10 thousand rupees per day. To this end, the commission ordered the return of a total of 2 lakh 10 thousand rupees. Refunds have also been ordered for another patient. One day the patient was admitted. He was billed Rs 50,000. In this case, it has been ordered to return 40 thousand rupees.
Another patient was infected with corona and was admitted there for four days. 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees was billed there. In this case, it has been instructed to return one lakh ten thousand rupees to the patient.
Incidentally, thousands of patients from the state visit Vellore every year for treatment. But why do they go to Vellore in South India when there are so many private hospitals in the state? Retired Justice Asim Bandyopadhyay, chairman of the state health commission, expressed displeasure at the hearing of the case at the state health commission on Monday. The hospital on the side of the bypass where the bill was 4 lakh 96 thousand rupees after 10 days of admission, the bill of the Christian Medical College in Vellore is 1 lakh 19 thousand rupees in 19 days. The cost of plaster, dressing and cotton for the private hospital in Kolkata was only one lakh rupees. The Kolkata hospital even threatened to remove Bikash Babu’s leg in the accident. But the damaged leg did not have to be removed. The commission gave this instruction after the whole incident. After that, the commission also took action against Apex Nursing Home in Behala.
