The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive social and economic impact. Both developed and developing economies had been hit. The marginalized groups and the most vulnerable were hit the hardest of all. The restart of tourism will help kick start recovery and growth. It was essential that the benefits this has brought were enjoyed widely and fairly.
World Tourism Day 2021 was designated by The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), as a day to focus on Tourism for Inclusive Growth. This became an opportunity to look beyond tourism statistics and acknowledge that, behind every number, there is a person. UNWTO had invited upon its Member States, as well as non-members, sister UN agencies, businesses and individuals to celebrate tourism’s unique ability. They ensured that nobody was left behind as the world began to open up again and looked to the future.
