#Kolkata: College principals also want offline exams. In the meeting convened by Calcutta University on Friday, most of the principals questioned offline. Although the College Street campus was abuzz with student protests, the principals were adamant about taking exams offline. The Calcutta University authorities held a meeting with the principals of 155 colleges under the university. A few days ago, the university authorities held a meeting with the undergraduate level Board of Studies and the postgraduate level Board of Studies. They also voted in favor of taking the exam offline.
From then on, student protests started on the University College Street campus. The agitating students, however, demanded to take the exam online. Although there was a meeting with the principals from 2 pm on this day, the students of different colleges started protesting on the College Street campus of Calcutta University. They have staged protests demanding to take online exams by blocking the main gate of the university. The students protested by blocking the main gate of the university as well as the back gate.

As soon as the meeting started, the university authorities sought the opinion of each of the principals on this day. The university authorities took note of the opinion of the principal of each college. However, some of the principals present at the meeting also questioned the need to take online exams. Besides, some of the principals who were present at the meeting informed the Calcutta University authorities about the possibility of protests in the colleges if the exams are taken offline.
At the end of the meeting, the university said, “In this day’s meeting, most of the college principals are in favor of taking the next even semester exams offline at the undergraduate level. Although some universities in the state initially offered to take exams offline, they have since changed their minds.
Vidyasagar University is on the path of taking exams online. However, Rabindranath Bharati University is on the path of taking exams offline. Several universities, including Jadavpur, have been adamant in their decision to take the exam offline. And so the University officials think that the Calcutta University Syndicate meeting on 3rd June is going to be quite important. However, since the questions from different quarters are strong for taking offline exams, there is no doubt that the scale is heavier towards offline exams.
