#Kolkata: There is no peace even after getting a job! After 15 years, the school education department (West Bengal) wanted to return the teachers’ increment. So finally the teachers had to pay attention to the High Court forgetting the class! In that case, the Education Department pushed the High Court. Postponement of the decision to seek refund of teachers’ salary increase. The Calcutta High Court stayed the decision of the education department. The school education department wants the teachers’ increment back after 15 years. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay stayed the decision. No part of the increased salary can be deducted till the High Court case is disposed of.
In 2004, 2005, 2006, that is, the teachers who were appointed more than 15 years ago fell into a dilemma due to the decision of the Department of Education. Teachers’ salaries have increased over time. This salary increase in proportion to the price increase is an increment at all. The school education department is now seeking the return of the increment received for 15 years. Initially, after a Supreme Court observation, the time for doing this training degree was also extended, the High Court litigants claimed. But at present, hundreds of teachers are facing extreme problems due to taking ‘U-turn’ in that position.
Why? The rule was that teachers would take a training degree within 5 years of getting the job. Due to various legal complications, this degree is no longer available to teachers. Most of them are in ninth, tenth and eleventh and twelfth classes. All these teachers will have to return the increment as the clear instruction of the school education department is not to give the training degree in time. And if it is not returned, the school education department will be forced to exclude it from the salary along with other benefits.
The teachers challenged the decision of the education department and approached the Calcutta High Court. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, after hearing the appeal, granted an interim stay on the decision of the Education Department.
