In 2017, BJP’s Jadeja Geetaba Jayrajsinh defeated INC’s Khatariya Arjunbhai Ghanshyambhai by a margin of 15,397 votes.

Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022: One of the 182 constituencies for the Vidhan Sabha elections, Gondal falls in Rajkot district geographically and is a segment of Porbandar Lok Sabha constituency. The contest this time would be to see if BJP would be able to retain its seat in Gondal constituency for the second time. In 2017, 12 candidates contested for Gondal seat. Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) grabbed the seat along with 98 others in the state. BJP’s Jadeja Geetaba Jayrajsinh beat INC’s Khatariya Arjunbhai Ghanshyambhai.

These candidates will be contesting Gujarat Legislative Assembly Elections 2022:

  • Nimishaben Khunt (Aam Aadmi Party)
  • Geetaba Jayrajsinh Jadeja (Bharatiya Janta Party)
  • Desai Yatish Govindlal (Indian National Congress)
  • Mukesh Dholumal Vardhani (Independent)

WHAT HAPPENED IN 2017 VIDHAN SABHA ELECTIONS?

Gondal legislative assembly constituency had total 2,13,098 electors. Total number of valid votes were 1,39,875. Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Jadeja Geetaba Jayrajsinh won by securing a total of 70,506 votes. Indian National Congress candidate Khatariya Arjunbhai Ghanshyambhai stood second with total 55,109 votes. He lost by 15,397 votes. Nationalist Congress Party’s candidate Jadeja Omdevsinh Prabhatsinh grabbed 6,004 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 51.4%, 40.1% and 4.4% respectively.

This year, it will be interesting to see if BJP is able to retain its seat and whether Geetaba Jadeja is able to become the MLA for the second time.
