IndiGo Airlines: The Indian aviation company has appointed William Walsh as the new CEO. This comes months after the massive disruptions were encountered across various airports in India. The former CEO of IndiGo, Pieter Elbers, resigned from his position just a few weeks ago. Now, the company has announced William Walsh as the new CEO, who has served as the chief at British Airways.
William Walsh joins IndiGo
The Managing Director of IndiGo, Rahul Bhatia, said, “As we enter a new phase of transformation and growth, I am delighted to welcome Willie to IndiGo. What did William Walsh say?
After being appointed as IndiGo’s CEO, William Walsh said that he’s delighted to have the opportunity to lead IndiGo. He added that the aviation company has a strong foundation, a compelling vision and an exceptional reputation. According to Walsh, what stands out is “their passion, professionalism and commitment”.
He also mentioned that the landscape of aviation is evolving rapidly and that the company is extremely well-positioned to be at the forefront of such transformation. Who is William Walsh?
IndiGo has announced William Walsh as the company’s new CEO, weeks after the former CEO Pieter Elbers gave his resignation. He’s currently the director general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The executive’s tenure at IATA will end on July 31. Later, he will be serving as the CEO of IndiGo.
Resignation of Pieter Elbers
The IndiGo flight disruptions in December led to a lot of chaos, which prompted the passengers to remain stranded at the airports. The impact was seen in multiple cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Chennai, and many others. This later led to the resignation of CEO Pieter Elbers, who had joined the aviation company in 2022.
Now, William Walsh is currently serving as the chief at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where his term is expected to end on July 31.
