‘Return To Work By 5 PM On Tuesday And No Action Will Be Taken’: SC To Protesting Doctors

On Wednesday, the President of the Indian Medical Association urged protesting doctors to return to patient care.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, while hearing the RG Kar College rape and murder case on Monday, 09 September 2024, asked protesting doctors to resume work by 5 pm on Tuesday, September 10.

CJI DY Chandrachud said that no adverse disciplinary action will be taken against them if they resume work. “However, if there is continuous abstaining from work then disciplinary action can be taken against them.”

On Wednesday, September 4, the President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) urged protesting doctors to return to patient care leaving justice to the Supreme Court of India.

The IMA President emphasised the Supreme Court’s response in the matter and said that the entire medical fraternity should abide by the word given by the Court.

The top court heard the case on Monday, 09 September 2024. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra is hearing the case.

The initial hearing was held on August 22 when the top court took suo moto cognisance of the case.
