Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front, notching up his third consecutive half-century in the continental showpiece. The right-handed opener also crossed the 10,000 runs mark and he became the second-fastest batter to reach the feat after Virat Kohli. Also, the Indian captain was the top scorer in the India vs Sri Lanka match with a vital knock of 53 runs.
After the match, Rohit Sharma said “It was a good game. For us also to play a game like that under pressure. Challenged a lot of aspects of our game. We definitely want to play on pitches like to see what we can achieve. [Hardik] He’s worked hard on his bowling over the last couple of years, and it’s pleasing to see how he bowled that spell. Not an easy target to defend. The pitch got slightly better towards the end so we had to hold our nerve and bowl consistently.
The Indian cricket team reached their 10th final in the Asia Cup after having clinched victories over Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Fours stages. Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka and Babar Azam-led Pakistan will meet in a virtual semi-final at the Premadasa Stadium on 14 September. The winner of that match will take on India for the Asia Cup 2023 trophy on 17 September.
