Manipur Unrest: What Is Happening?
It is to be noted that the northeastern state has been a hotbed of ethnic violence in recent years. As per reports, suspected Kuki militants started attacking people at Moirang Tronglaobi Awang Leikai this afternoon. The blast occurred at the house of a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel when the family was asleep.
Meanwhile, Manipur home minister K Govindas took to X and condemned the attack, terming it a barbaric act.
“In a barbaric early morning act, two innocent children, a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old baby girl, lost their lives while asleep with their mother. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Such brutality will not be tolerated. The matter is under active investigation, and all necessary steps are being taken to bring those responsible to justice,” he said.
It is to be noted that Tronglaobi is located close to Churachandpur district, which has been considered a sensitive zone, as it is believed that armed groups are active in the region.
Meanwhile, authorities have deployed security forces in the area to control the law and order situation. Forces have initiated search operations and surveillance in hill areas to prevent further escalation.
