New Delhi: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar died on Wednesday morning after a chartered plane crash in Baramati. Five people on board, including the crew, were killed when the plane, flying from Mumbai, crash-landed at 08:45 local time. It is important to note that this was the second accident involving VSR Ventures in Maharashtra in the last two and a half years. In the previous accident, there were no fatalities.

Earlier, the accident occurred on 14 September 2023 in Mumbai and involved a VSR Ventures-owned Learjet 45 XR aircraft, VT-DBL. The aircraft, carrying six passengers on board, was operating a non-scheduled passenger flight from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai. The aircraft took off normally from Visakhapatnam, and the flight en route was uneventful.Here are some of the key details:
- The aircraft was cleared to land on Runway 27 and given landing clearance.
- At the time of landing, Mumbai Airport was experiencing heavy rain and reduced visibility.
- During landing, the aircraft drifted to the right of Runway 27 and moved toward Apron C.
- About 40 seconds after the autopilot was disconnected, a stick shaker alert sounded in the cockpit, accompanied by a stall warning.
- EGPWS warnings were generated, and the aircraft crash-landed at the shoulder of the intersection of Taxiway W and Taxiway N.
- As a result, the fuselage broke into two pieces and skidded, finally coming to a stop near the intersection of Taxiway U and Taxiway N on an unpaved area (near stand C80).
