The troubles of England cricket team off the field are not ending anytime soonEven after their innings and 103-run win over visiting Pakistan team in the first Test of three-match series, there was more controversy off the field as yet another English cricketer was seen in handcuffs outside a night club after the incident involving former captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson earlier this year.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have launched an investigation into England and Sunriser Hyderabad pacer Brydon Carse after footage emerged on social media showing him being led away in handcuffs by police outside a nightclub in Derby, according to Cricinfo.
The incident reportedly occurred late on Saturday nightIt is the latest embarrassing off-field incident involving an England cricketer in the past 12 months and is likely to raise further questions about the team’s relationship with alcoholThe video also reportedly shows former England captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes in the background.
According to a video posted by The Telegraph Cricket on ‘X’, Carse was detained by police but not arrested.

Carse is part of England’s squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan but was released to play for Durham in the County Championship after missing out on the final XIHe scored 26 with the bat and returned match figures of 2 for 82 as Durham secured a win over Derbyshire inside three daysCarse was reportedly out celebrating with his Durham teammates when the incident occurred.
Stokes, who announced his retirement from international cricket last month, was also part of the Durham team and was present at the night club with Carse.
The ECB said on Sunday, “We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigatingWe will provide a further update when possible.”
Carse was England’s leading wicket-taker in last winter’s Ashes 2025-26 series but has yet to feature in an international match this summerHe missed the series against New Zealand due to wrist and elbow injuries and was a late addition to the ODI squad for the India series.
He was subsequently named in England’s Test squad after proving his fitness while playing for Kavya Maran-owned Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred 2026Earlier this year, Stokes and Atkinson were both suspended pending an investigation into their celebrations following England’s first Test of the summer against New Zealand, which later cleared them of any involvement in violent conduct at a nightclub but saw them given written warnings after breaching ‘specific contractual obligations’.
Since taking over captaincy from Stokes, new England captain Joe Root’s first move was to end midnight curfew of the cricketers as he trusted them to act like ‘grown up adults’.
England will face Pakistan in the second Test of the three-match series starting at Lord’s in London from Thursday.
