Government Announces MSP for Raw Jute at ₹5,925 per Quintal for Crop Year 2026–27

By Rajannya Purkait:- The Jute Corporation of India (JCI), a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Textiles, has announced the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Raw Jute for the 2026–27 crop year, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the interests of jute farmers across the country.As per the notification, the Government of India has fixed the MSP of TD-3 (Middle Grade) Raw Jute at ₹5,925 per quintal, effective from July 1, 2026. The Office of the Jute Commissioner has also notified grade-wise MSP rates for various categories of Tossa and White Jute.Under the revised MSP structure, TD-1 (W-1) has been priced at ₹6,525 per quintal, TD-2 (W-2) at ₹6,325, TD-3 (W-3) at ₹5,925, TD-4 (W-4) at ₹5,525, and TD-5 (W-5) at ₹5,325 per quintal. For Mesta/Bimli, MSP rates range from ₹4,325 per quintal for M1 (O-Top) to ₹3,750 per quintal for M6 (X-Bot).JCI stated that it has launched extensive awareness campaigns in collaboration with state governments to ensure farmers are informed about the revised MSP and procurement centres. Publicity initiatives include village-level outreach programmes, awareness meetings, press conferences, and advertisements in regional newspapers.The corporation has also strengthened its digital services through the PAAT-MITRO mobile application, which provides information on MSP, procurement centres, weather forecasts, agro-advisories, and payment status. A slot booking system will also be introduced through the app this season to facilitate smoother procurement, reduce waiting time, and improve transparency.In addition to MSP procurement, JCI continues to support crop insurance awareness, sustainable jute cultivation, quality improvement through grading laboratories, and farmer training programmes. The organisation is also promoting Jute Diversified Products (JDPs) manufactured by Self-Help Groups, cooperatives, and rural entrepreneurs to enhance livelihood opportunities while encouraging eco-friendly products.The corporation further highlighted the progress of the Jute-ICARE Scheme, implemented in collaboration with the National Jute Board, ICAR-CRIJAF, ICAR-NINFET, and other institutions. Now in its twelfth phase, the initiative has benefited more than 5.6 lakh farmers by promoting improved cultivation practices. JCI is also developing a geospatial crop monitoring system with ISRO-NRSC for scientific assessment of jute cultivation across India.Celebrating its 55th year of service, the Jute Corporation of India reiterated its commitment to ensuring effective MSP operations, protecting farmers’ interests, and contributing to the sustainable growth of India’s jute sector.
