Fortis Hospital Jalandhar Organises Voluntary Blood Donation Camp; Honours Blood Donors, NGOs For Their Contribution

Reinforcing its commitment towards community health and the awareness around voluntary blood donation, Fortis Hospital Jalandhar organized an in-house Blood Donation Camp along with a special felicitation ceremony to honour voluntary blood donors, social workers and Partner NGOs, who have played a pivotal role in supporting safe and regular blood donation initiatives in the region.

The felicitation ceremony acknowledged regular voluntary blood donors who have donated blood multiple times and contributed significantly towards maintaining an adequate blood inventory at the hospital’s Blood Centre. Blood donation motivators, social workers and community leaders who actively encourage people to donate blood voluntarily were also recognized for their efforts. In addition, NGOs, youth clubs, social organizations and community groups that have partnered with Fortis Jalandhar and supported blood donation drives throughout the year were felicitated for their unwavering commitment to the cause.

The blood donation camp aimed to promote awareness about the need for regular voluntary blood donation, ensure the availability of safe blood and blood components for patients requiring emergency care, surgeries, cancer treatment, thalassemia management, organ transplantation and other critical medical interventions, and encourage first-time donors to become lifelong contributors to this life-saving movement. Blood shortages remain a critical public health challenge in India. From accident victims and cancer patients to mothers facing childbirth complications, thousands depend on timely access to blood. A culture of regular blood donation can bridge this gap and strengthen the nation’s healthcare system.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kusum Thakur, HOD, Transfusion Medicine (Blood Centre), Fortis Hospital Jalandhar said, “Every unit of blood donated has the potential to save multiple lives. Voluntary blood donors are the backbone of a safe and sustainable blood supply system. Through this initiative, we want to strengthen awareness about regular blood donation and express our heartfelt gratitude to the donors, motivators and organizations who have consistently supported this cause. Their selfless contributions help ensure that patients receive timely access to life-saving blood and blood components whenever needed.”

Dr Ankush Mehta, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Jalandhar said, “Blood donation is one of the few acts that benefits both the recipient and the donor. While it provides a lifeline to patients in need, it also encourages the body to replenish blood cells, offers a basic health screening, and fosters a sense of well-being through the simple act of helping others. Most importantly, every donation has the potential to save lives.”

Sharing her thoughts, Mrs Harvinder Kaur, President, Pahal NGO said, “Voluntary blood donation is a simple act that can have an extraordinary impact on someone’s life. We are proud to partner with Fortis Hospital Jalandhar in promoting this humanitarian cause. Recognizing donors and motivators not only honours their contribution but also inspires others to come forward and become part of this life-saving mission. Together, we can build a healthier and more compassionate society.”

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hospital staff, volunteers, community members and donor groups, further strengthening the collective commitment towards ensuring an adequate and safe blood supply for patients in need. Through such initiatives, Fortis Hospital Jalandhar continues to champion public health awareness and encourage greater community involvement in life-saving healthcare causes.
