After creating the critically acclaimed film Shohorer Upokotha, based on the widely celebrated play by Badal Sircar, director Bappa is now set to release his next feature film. While his previous work explored themes of social and moral decay, this new film delves into financial hardship and the tragic struggles of survival.
Bishwakarma (Rahul Arunoday Banerjee) is a photographer and artist. However, no one around him understands his artistic sensibilities. Everyone believes he is a poor photographer, leaving him neglected and undervalued. He fails to find meaningful work and is only called upon to photograph the dead.
Despite severe financial difficulties, Bishwakarma’s wife Mala (Debleena Dutt) works in a factory to support the family. Even amidst their constant struggles, she carries a deep sense of respect and compassion for her husband. But Bishwakarma gradually becomes isolated within his own inner world.
As the story unfolds through a series of emotional and dramatic turns, Mala and Bishwakarma eventually arrive at a point where both are forced to make two extremely painful and unwanted decisions. What are those decisions? What becomes of their fate? In today’s world, can an artist truly survive while holding on to his artistic integrity?
Through the deeply moving writing of Shantanu Nath, director Bappa weaves the story of a helpless artist battling against the harsh blows of life.
The producers and the entire crew also wish to present and screen this film free of cost for audiences, believing that Chhobiwala is not merely a film, but an important reflection on the necessity, humanity, and emotional value of cinema in today’s society. Their intention is to ensure that the story reaches people without any barriers, allowing viewers to truly understand the essence and importance of meaningful cinema.
