Actor Abhishek Banerjee is choosing to put more energy into the creative side of his careerAfter nearly a decade of balancing acting with the responsibilities of running Casting Bay, he has stepped away from the casting companyThe decision comes at a time when his acting career continues to grow with major film and OTT projectsBanerjee has clarified that his exit is not about leaving casting completelyInstead, he wants to avoid professional conflicts while giving himself more room to explore acting, writing and productionHis next major project is Mirzapur: The Movie, which is set to bring the popular crime franchise to theatres.
Why Abhishek Banerjee left Casting Bay?
Abhishek Banerjee co-founded Casting Bay with Anmol Ahuja around a decade agoOver the years the company became an important part of his professional journeyHowever, managing its administrative responsibilities alongside a busy acting schedule became increasingly difficult.

Speaking about the decision with Hindustan Times, Abhishek said it was not easy for him to handle company-related work while shooting for different projectsHe also explained why casting required his physical presence.
“I think it was any which way very difficult for me to handle any kind of company work and administrative work because of my shooting schedules,” he saidAbhishek added that he does not believe casting can be handled properly from a distance“I don’t believe in doing casting without being in the casting roomsSo for me that was very important.”
Abhishek wanted to avoid a conflict of interest
The actor also felt that continuing as both an actor and casting director could create unnecessary questions about professional interestsAccording to Abhishek these concerns had been raised ever since he became an actor.
Although he pointed out that there were hardly any projects where his acting and casting responsibilities overlapped he felt it was better to remove any possible ambiguity“I thought if I am not able to give hundred percent in something then what’s the whole point of doing it? It’s better to let the youngsters take over and let them do the job,” he explained.
Casting is not completely out of his plans
Abhishek has also made it clear that stepping away from Casting Bay does not mean he is permanently walking away from the casting professionHe may explore something related to the field later but does not currently see himself returning as a casting director.

His decision comes as his acting career enters another important phaseFrom smaller appearances he went on to become a familiar face through films such as Go Goa Gone, Stree, Bhediya, Stree 2 and Dream GirlHis OTT work in Mirzapur, Paatal Lok and Rana Naidu further strengthened his position as a versatile performer.
“I want to put more focus on other stuff and offlineI want to write, I want to produceSo I want to focus thereHence this was my next stepIt’s just like sometimes you have to move on from some place to reach somewhere else,” he said.
Mirzapur: The Movie is his next big release
The timing of Abhishek’s decision is interesting as he is gearing up for the theatrical release of Mirzapur: The MovieThe crime thriller is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 4, 2026.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the film takes the popular OTT franchise to the big screenPankaj Tripathi returns as Kaleen Bhaiya while Ali Fazal reprises Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu returns as legendary Munna BhaiyaAbhishek will also return as CompounderThe film is expected to bring back the intense gang wars and power struggles that made Mirzapur a major pop-culture phenomenon.
