Kolkata: On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, Nephrocare India PvtLtd(NCIL) organised a media interaction titled ‘Freedom from Kidney Diseases’ at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital, Tollygunge, on Saturday, August 15The event focused on kidney health, early detection of kidney diseases and the recent developments and facilities introduced at the hospital.
The session was led by Dr Pratim Sengupta, Founder-MD, Nephrocare India PvtLtdand senior consultant and nephrologistHe spoke about the importance of kidney health, particularly among the younger generation, and the need for timely diagnosis and appropriate care for patients with advanced kidney conditions.
Doctors including Dr Priyangini, Dr Nirmal, Dr Kaushik and Dr Bibek were also present during the interaction.
A key focus of the discussion was the early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD)The doctors highlighted the importance of regular medical evaluation, including urine testing and the ACR test to detect possible protein leakage from the kidneysThe hospital also highlighted its newer facilities for diagnosis and laboratory investigations.
The discussion also focused on lifestyle correction, with sleep, nutrition and physical activity being emphasised as important aspects of overall healthDr Sengupta spoke about sleep deprivation among the younger generation and discussed lifestyle factors such as chewing tobacco like betel quid, and consumption of cold drinks, along with their possible impact on health.
The doctors further discussed the health impact of prolonged sitting and suggested taking regular breaks, walking, maintaining an erect spine and adopting appropriate seating arrangementsUnder-desk cycling was also mentioned as an alternative for those who spend long hours sitting.
The hospital highlighted its nutrition-focused approach, wellness initiatives and emphasis on clinical governance, while underlining its efforts to provide better assistance to patients.
Several media organisations, including The Times of Bengal, were invited to cover the interaction and take the message of kidney health and disease prevention to a wider audience.
Through the initiative, Nephrocare India sought to give a new meaning to Independence Day with a call for greater awareness, early detection and healthier lifestyle choices for better kidney health.
