A 31-year-old software engineer was allegedly beaten to death by his wife’s relatives following a family dispute in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar areaThe deceased was identified as Vinay Gupta, a resident of Laxmi ParkHe had married a 31-year-old Rekha, a homemaker around three-and-a-half years agoThe couple has twin children, a boy and a girl, who are around four and a half months old.
Vinay worked as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida, while his wife is a homemakerThe incident happened on Saturday morning after Vinay and Rekha, had an argument over giving medicine to their childRekha then left the house after calling her family membersAbout 10 minutes later, she returned to the couple’s home in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar with her two brothers, sister-in-law, father, uncle and other relatives.
The family has alleged that Vinay was attacked soon after they arrivedHe suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Vinay’s mother was reportedly arranging water and refreshments for the visitors when the alleged assault beganWhen she returned, she saw her son being attacked and tried to stop the groupHis family claimed that she called for help and pleaded with them to spare him, but the assault continued.
Vinay’s father said the couple had been having disagreements over small matters for some timeThe family had hoped that the issues could be settled through discussions, but the situation allegedly turned violent on Saturday.
The deceased’s family has accused Vinay’s wife and six to seven of her relatives of being involved in the attack.
Police have started an investigation into the incidentA forensic team also visited the spot and collected evidence.
Four people allegedly involved in the incident have so far been identified and detained, police saidA case is being registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
