Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain has been handed his senior debut cap after left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav was forced to be excluded from the Indian playing XI for the series concluding second Test against Sri Lanka at the SSC Stadium in ColomboKuldeep did not train with the team in any of their sessions as he reportedly asked for rest, paving the way for Saransh’s first appearance.
Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja presented the debut cap to Saransh Jain, who will play his first match in India whites at the age of 33.

Saransh Jain’s background
Born in Indore on March 31, 1993, Saransh is a left-handed batter and right-arm off-spinnerHe made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in December 2014 and has spent most of his career with the state sideHe made his List A debut in 2017, but red-ball cricket has always been his strongest format.
Going into his India call-up, Saransh had played 54 first-class matches, scoring 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 and taking 188 wickets at 27.30Those numbers show why he was seen as a useful all-round option rather than just a spinnerHe can bat in the lower middle order and has often played an important role with the bat when Madhya Pradesh have been in trouble.
His 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season was particularly strongSaransh scored 613 runs and took 30 wickets in seven matches, with a best bowling effort of 6/75He also scored a century against Saurashtra, remaining unbeaten on 103His performances helped him become one of Madhya Pradesh’s key players during the season.
His form was not limited to the Ranji TrophySaransh was named Player of the Series in the 2025 Duleep Trophy after taking 16 wickets for Central Zone in just two matchesCentral Zone went on to win the tournamentHe then carried that form into India A’s tour of Sri Lanka, where he showed that his game could work outside domestic cricket as well.
There is also a family story behind Saransh’s long journeyHis father, Subodh Jain, was a former Ranji Trophy player and played an important role in his cricketDuring a difficult period when his father was battling cancer, he kept the illness away from Saransh so that his son could remain focused on cricket.
A handwritten note from his father later became an important source of motivation for himHis brother also gave up his own cricket ambitions to support the family and Saransh’s career.
Saransh never played in the IPL but his efforts in the domestic circuit ensured this day for him and now he will be hoping to make his mark.
