Drishyam 3 opened with blockbuster numbers but Day 2 trends suggest a shift in momentum as the suspense thriller recorded a major dip in collections across several regions.

Drishyam 3 arrived in theatres with huge excitement and opened to packed houses across India and overseas markets. Released on May 21, which also marked Mohanlal’s birthday the crime thriller started its theatrical run with impressive numbers and strong audience reactions. However, the film saw a noticeable fall in collections on its second day despite maintaining steady footfall in Kerala. Even with the drop, the film has comfortably crossed the Rs 20 crore mark in India within just two days and continues to remain one of the biggest Malayalam releases of the year.
Drishyam 3 sees major dip on second day
After collecting Rs 15.85 crore net in India on its opening day, the film earned around Rs 11.05 crore net on Friday, according to early trade estimates by Sacnilk. This means the thriller witnessed a drop of more than 30 percent on day two. Despite the decline, the film’s total domestic collection now stands at Rs 26.90 crore net in India.
The opening day performance was massive for the suspense thriller. The film collected around Rs 18.37 crore gross in India and nearly Rs 25 crore from overseas territories, taking the worldwide total to around Rs 43.37 crore on day one. Meanwhile, the makers claimed the worldwide opening was even higher at Rs 50.35 crore.
Malayalam version continues to dominate collections
Among all languages the Malayalam version remained the strongest contributor on day two. The film earned around Rs 9.85 crore in Malayalam alone with an occupancy rate close to 61 percent across more than 2800 shows.
The Telugu version performed better than the Tamil and Kannada versions. Telugu collections stood at nearly Rs 0.70 crore while Tamil brought in around Rs 0.40 crore. Kannada contributed close to Rs 0.10 crore.
The overall occupancy for the film on Friday remained around 56.44 percent. Morning shows recorded nearly 37.33 percent occupancy while afternoon shows improved to 55.17 percent. Evening shows reached 64.92 percent and night shows climbed further to 68.33 percent showing that audience interest remained strong during later hours.
How Drishyam 3 compares with Mohanlal’s recent films
Although Drishyam 3 has not managed to cross the two-day business of L2: Empuraan it has still performed much better than several of Mohanlal’s recent releases. L2: Empuraan had earned around Rs 32.10 crore in two days while the thriller Thudarum collected Rs 14.30 crore during the same period. Romantic comedy Hridayapoorvam earned around Rs 5.75 crore and historical drama Vrusshabha struggled throughout its run with only Rs 1.64 crore net in India.
About the film and cast
Directed and written by Jeethu Joseph the third installment continues the story of Georgekutty and his family after the events of the first two films. The movie has been produced by Aashirvad Cinemas. Apart from Mohanlal the film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Siddique and Asha Sarath in important roles.
The climax of the film has already sparked fresh conversations online because it hints at the possibility of Drishyam 4. Even before the release Mohanlal had teased that the story of Georgekutty may continue further.
