New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal has spent around Rs 295 crore so far in their attempts to put him in jail.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari, while comparing the “cost” of TMC’s efforts to put him behind bars to the Central government’s budget of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, claimed that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime in the state has so far spent Rs 295 crore in their attempt to jail him while the entire cost of India’s successful moon mission was Rs 615 crore.
“The central government spent Rs 615 crore on sending the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft to the Moon while Mamata Banerjee’s government has so far spent Rs 295 crore trying to put me in jail,” Suvendu Adhikari said.
Pertinently, while he was a member of the TMC, Adhikari had one case file against him but the number surged to 27 since he switched sides and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In recent past, courts have raised questions over the number of cases filed against the BJP leader who recently approached the High Court to challenge the FIRs registered against him by the West Bengal Police.
Adhikari alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on a 12-day visit to Dubai and Spain, had gone to the gulf city to “siphon off illegally acquired money”.
“Laws in Dubai allow illegitimate money to be siphoned off and Banerjee has gone there to secure her ill-gotten money,” Adhikari claimed, adding that her family members were also sending money through Hawala from West Bengal.
“Earlier, her nephew (Abhishek Banerjee), nephew’s wife (Rujira Banerjee), and nephew’s sister-in-law prepared the plot (to siphon off the illegally acquired money). Mamata Banerjee is the witness of this plot. So she has a transit point in Dubai while visiting Spain,” Adhikari said, according to India Today.
